Client
A multilingual large language service provider operating in the European region. The client primarily collaborates with pharmaceutical companies, medical device manufacturers, and contract research organizations (CROs), providing language services for various medical and healthcare needs.
Problem
The client works extensively with medical companies and government healthcare institutions. Their core requirement is translating clinical trial documentation, medical marketing materials, medical textbooks, and regulatory documents across European languages. However, a significant challenge they faced was the need for direct translations between less common language pairs without using English as an intermediary (e.g., Language 1 → Language 2 instead of the usual Language 1 → English → Language 2). Ensuring accuracy, regulatory compliance, and linguistic consistency across such direct translations presented a complex problem.
Solution
To address the client’s needs, we provided a comprehensive range of language services, including high-quality translation, editing, machine translation post-editing (MTPE), post-machine translation quality evaluation, linguistic quality assurance (LQA), and linguistic validation. We worked with 12 source European languages and 14 target European languages, ensuring seamless multilingual communication without English as a pivot language.
Our approach was based on industry-approved standards and our company’s rigorous procedures for quality and accuracy. We leveraged specialized tools and technology, as described on our website, but the key factor in our success was our vendor management department. This team effectively sourced and onboarded linguistic specialists with medical expertise in rare language pairs, ensuring that each project was handled by professionals with the necessary background and knowledge.
To manage the large volume of projects efficiently, our project management team played a crucial role. Supported by a robust translation management system (TMS), they ensured smooth workflow coordination, timely deliveries, and adherence to strict quality standards.
Result
Throughout 2024, we successfully completed over 150 projects for this client, consistently delivering high-quality translations. The client expressed full satisfaction with our services and has committed to continuing our collaboration. One of the key benefits for the client was the speed of our service—they received high-quality translations quickly and cost-effectively by eliminating the additional step of translating through English.
Furthermore, this partnership allowed us to expand our language service offerings significantly. By successfully handling complex and rare language pairs, we have now strengthened our capabilities and can confidently offer medical translation services in over 38 languages.
This collaboration was both a challenge and an opportunity for our team, allowing us to refine our processes, broaden our linguistic network, and establish ourselves as a key player in the medical translation industry for European languages.
